At Travursity, we understand that running a business can be difficult and challenging at times; especially when we are hit with unexpected emergencies.  Over the last couple of weeks, as with many across the nation, we endured the stress and fall out from Hurricane Irma.  To make matters worse, we still had a showcase in Portland, Oregon (pretty much as far across the nation as we could go from central Florida) to attend to before we came back to hunker down and embrace a devastating storm.  Once we arrived in Portland, we realized that their region was under siege with massive wildfires destroying property, nature and life.  This led to a number of cancellations at our event, but we welcomed the agents that could attend with open arms and open bar for a good night of travel education.

Luckily for us, we made it back to Orlando on one of the emptiest flights we have ever seen and were able to get home to secure the house, family and businesses before Irma’s strike.  We managed to miss her eye-wall, but was well entrenched in the dirty side of the storm which most know can sometimes be worse. Fortunately we emerged with only some downed lines, loss of power for a few days and minimal damage.  One can only think of the possibilities such as the coast of Texas recently encountered with Hurricane Harvey.

We hope this is the last of the storms we encounter for the remainder of this year’s hurricane season.  Our hearts go out to everyone that has gone through these storms and pray they are able to quickly heal and rebuild no matter the magnitude of their losses.  Many Caribbean islands are destroyed and a big part of our industry is hurting.  We can help by getting the message out that they are strong and resilient people and the bond of community, friendship and hope; we will see these incredibly beautiful islands emerge better than ever. Our support and prayers go out to all that have endured these hardships and we at Travursity Travel Showcase look forward to working with all the islands that suffered and experienced such tragic loss!
